The way companies perceive and purchase their software has been changing over the last few years. Organisations no longer have to buy an on-premise application and host it on site; they can have it delivered on-demand, as a service or hosted by the software provider or a third party.
The term Communications as a Service (CaaS) is used to describe a multi-tenanted solution where the platform and applications are shared between any number of customers in a manner which ensures a secure environment for each customer or ‘tenant’. The term Hosted solution is used for both multi-tenanted systems and for solutions where the platform is owned and operated by a third party but hardware is dedicated to one specific customer.
