What It Is
Mobile Direct Connect (MDC) is a solution to directly connect your business mobile phones to your PBX and any associated applications, thereby providing an Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) solution to your business. Interconnection to the PBX is provided by a specialist dedicated Trunk running across an IP interconnect. This unique interconnect ensures that all voice calls to and from mobile phones fitted with TeleWare Mobile SIM cards are routed to your corporate PBX.
The Proposition
Until now, businesses have had no control over mobile phone use and no way of directly managing fraud situations around their mobile numbers. MDC enables businesses to ensure all calls made from business mobiles are passed to the corporate PBX for switching. For example, a call recording solution can be collocated with the PBX to ensure all calls are recorded, without any possibility of avoidance. Calls can then pass out to the PSTN or over a connected IP VPN or corporate network in order to take control of call costs.
Since the business now has control of all mobile call switching, managers can assume an active role in fraud management by barring all inbound and outbound calls on specific SIMs when possible fraud has been identified.
With MDC, there is no client on the mobile phone so there is no risk of circumventing the prescribed call routing. Since there is no change to the way the mobile phone is used, there are no training or support implications for the business.
How It Works
Inbound calls are routed to the TeleWare Mobile SIM via the MDC by the mobile carrier network. For outbound calls, the TeleWare Mobile SIM is configured to route all calls to the TeleWare platform and across the MDC to the designated PBX. All calls are presented on a single phone bill.
CLI Presentation
TeleWare Mobile will always pass the originating mobile CLI through to the PBX. In some instances, the PBX carrier may not be able to present this CLI to the destination handset. In this case, an additional MDC can be installed to pass traffic to the TeleWare platform and over the network to the destination handset, avoiding the limitations of the carrier interconnect.
Creating Resilience
A second redundant MDC can be used to provide an alternative route in case of interconnect failure. It is recommended, in order to ensure compliance at all times, that this second trunk be based on an alternative carrier’s interconnect and connected to an alternative PBX, whenever possible.
